Chairperson: Rick Collins, TVA, 423-751-7935, recollins@tva.gov The mission of the Fossil Productivity Committee (FPC) is to promote and to facilitate the continuous improvement of fossil plant management practices. The committee offers a forum for the mutual exchange of fossil plant performance, historical cost data, and process improvement information and various areas for benchmarking and best practices. Topics include plant operations and maintenance issues, outage planning, activity-based management, process management, and data analysis. The committee maintains an annual database and uses the data to produce benchmarking studies of cost and performance as well as plant staffing. The FPC identifies best performers based on low cost and high performance. Representatives from top-performing plants are invited to the semiannual EUCG workshops to describe the operations and management practices that drive their plants’ success. The committee also invites representatives from high performance organizations outside the electric utility industry to share processes and practices that contribute to their success. | The FPC is always critically evaluating cutting-edge innovation in plant management and O&M operations through periodic in-depth surveys on topics such as boiler tube failure; plant staffing (operations, maintenance, coal handling, and engineering); and SCR and scrubber installation and maintenance costs. Among the committee’s other products is a Combustion Turbine/Combined Cycle (CT/CC) cost and performance database. A one-day CC/CT agenda track was offered at the 2010 Fall Workshops, and topics of interest to utilities with CC/CT installations will be offered on the first two days of the 2011 Spring Workshops. The FPC launched the Fossil Outage Forum in 2007. This group conducts a separate workshop targeted to outage planning and management groups, with participation open to all FPC member utilities. The most recent meeting was held in Columbus, Ohio, in August 2010, and included outage case studies; presentations on flow accelerated corrosion, outage cost tracking, outage organization structures, and outage readiness; an open forum discussion; and roundtable discussions on outage planning and scheduling. Membership in the FPC entitles one person from your organization to attend the Outage Forum Workshop at no charge. |
